As some of you know, even if I feel healthy and fit today, back in the days I went through a lot of bad shoulder injuries, which gave me the “opportunity” to spend months going to physical therapy, recovering and the inability to cope with simple things as getting dressed by yourself or tying your hair in a pony tail. I remember one of the days, when I was in physical therapy and I decided to calculate how many months of my life I have spend there ( for all the shoulder injuries)… well they turned out to be 3 years, not just months!

I remember the advices that other people gave me, how I was supposed to be more careful and probably stop working out, plus some other “competent” opinions from that sort. And the worst part was that some of these “competent” advices  were not just from people in my community, but from doctors as well.

Why am I saying this?

The other day, I was once again doing weighted push- ups, when an acquaintance of mine came to me and told me that I should not work out like this and that with the history of my injuries I shouldn’t train my arms too much.

Well, that is why I decided to tell you something.

I decided to tell you that this is the biggest delusion!

That the worst advice you could receive, when you’ve had some kind of an injury is to stop working out.

The worst advice is to rest and make excuses that you can’t do something, because you’ve had an injury.

I am happy, that as I always do, I did not listen to doctors and other people around and deep inside I knew that I could recover and that I actually MUST recover!

By allowing yourself to make excuses, that you had an injury and that you should take it easier, you are just making yourself more harm than good. Because when somewhere in the “chain” there is a weak link and you let it stay like this… it gets weaker and there comes a moment when the chain will tear down.

When you allow an injury to stay like this… to the time’s will, you risk having worse injuries in the future and a lot more painful situations.

Every time when you injure yourself and you feel the injured place weak, your body tries to compensate and builds another moving pattern, where the stronger links become responsible to do the work, that the weak once can’t.

Thus, you slowly start twisting your posture, your gate, the way you move. All of this leads to unwanted load and too much work from muscles and joints that were not meant to work this way and that are not supposed to compensate for weaker links.

I want to tell you that exactly because you had an injury, you should train the hardest. Exactly because my shoulders were injured so many times, they need the most work and the most attention.

Recovery takes time and sometimes it is the most annoying and discouraging thing in the world. But it is so worth it!

By saying that the injured places need the most work, I am not encouraging you to abuse your body and force it to do something that it is not prepared to do. I am encouraging you to gradually, with the right steps and workouts in adequate quantity, to strengthen the weak points, so in a couple years you could be pain free and feel strong. So that in a couple years, when you go to the gym, you could feel in the best shape of your life and to inspire people with your personal example. To  prove that excuses and more rest are for those who search for a reason to skip life and just spend more time existing. That excuses are for those who have chosen the role of a victim, and in return life has chosen to sacrifice!

I once read that “The Universe, always hits the weakest links, so it can make them stronger.” Well, probably injuries are just some kind of a hint, that we have not made enough effort to develop a strength, harmonic body, which is able to respond to the daily activities we demand of it.

So when you’ve received such a hint for some kind of a weakness, do not allow yourself to be too careful and don’t let the weakness, turn into your characteristic. Do not allow injuries to define your limits. You are capable of much more. It takes time! It might even take years, but what matters is to give your best on a daily basis. To move one step closer to a healthier you, to become stronger and to never allow the weakness to “dig” deeper and harm the rest of your body!

The place, where in “monitoring conditions”” you can remind your body how to move correctly, how to work in your interest. Everything I have tried to achieve through IFS and the trainings is to help people bring back their consciousness, health and freedom to be who they are-without doubting.
