The more the years go by, the more I am convinced that our grandmothers, or actually our great grandmothers, know a lot more for a healthy lifestyle, than any expert out there.
If we start from bone broth, that they insist on cooking; if we go through the daily physical activities they perform; the time they take to socialize with friends and walk in the park; the moments they spend among nature and finally end up with their refusal to use all kinds of technological inventions of our contemporary life…
…like microwave. Not that I am my grandmother’s age, but I am also the kind of person, who thinks a huge percent of contemporary commodities, are just useless items, which just fill up space in my apartment, and some of them are pretty bad for our health.
Today, I will tell you more about microwave ovens. An article, that I’ve written long ago, but I never really found the motivation to post it, until last week, when I shared this post on my Facebook page. The post had to do with an experiment, conducted with flowers and water, that was previously heated in a microwave oven. For more details, read the original post.
I will do something, that I usually avoid- introduce you some unnecessary, curious facts, but I think that you will find them interesting.
As each invention, this one was invented “by accident”, after a chocolate bar, melted in the Percy Spenser’s pocket ( the inventor of the microwave), while he was working with an active radar set.
How does the microwave work?
You will say that it is simple- microwave ovens use microwaves.
In reality, it is a form of electromagnetic radiation- waves of electrical and magnetic energy, moving together through space.
Microwaves are generated from a magnetron, which is a term derived from “magnet” and “electron”.
What a magnetron actually presents, is a tube, where electrons are subjected to magnetic and electrical fields, producing an electromagnetic field with microwave frequency.
When you place food into the microwave, it is being heated by dielectric heating.
Water molecules, are electric dipoles and have a partial positive charge and a partial negative charge. As they try to align themselves with the alternating electric field of the microwave, they constantly rotate.
What occurs is a dispersing energy, which is a result from rotating molecules hitting other molecules and putting them into motion. This energy is actually the heat.
In order for something to be heated in a microwave oven, it should has water. The reason for this is the process described above or in other words, the fact, that water molecules in our food, vibrate with a velocity, which created molecular rubbing, which in turn leads to heating.
Probably, you’ve noticed how food in a microwave oven, is not always heated evenly. The reason behind this, is not in you, neither in the quality f the microwave oven you are using.
The reason is hidden in the fact, that in some foods, water molecules are not evenly spread.
And why would you care?
In first place, microwave ovens, damage the nutrients in our food, by damaging the structure of the cells.
As a rule, every time you heat something, it loses part of its nutrients.
Microwaves alter nutrients to a higher degree and deplete them much more, than any other heating method.
It is an interesting fact that a Japanese study by Watanabe showed that 6 minutes of microwave heating, turned about 30-40% of the B12 in milk into a dead form.
Another interesting study, published in The Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, found that broccoli “zapped” in the microwave with some water, lost about 97% of its beneficial antioxidants. On the other hand steamed broccoli lost not more than 11 percent of the antioxidants.(Source)
There are a lot of examples like this, and if you are curious to learn more, search in google.
Besides that, misled by our fast paced daily life and our desire to complete every task as quickly as possible, we buy the most powerful technologies and we use their full capacity. The maximum power of a microwave oven, actually leads to a stronger electric field and to a higher percent of nutrient damage in foods.
What Do Microwaves Cause to Cells?
Besides that, the weakening of cell membranes by microwaves is used in the field of gene altering technology.
Because of the force involved, the cells are actually broken, thereby neutralizing the electrical potentials-the very life of the cells-between the outer and inner sides of the cell membranes. Impaired cells become easy prey for viruses, fungi and other micro-organisms.
The natural repair mechanisms are suppressed, and cells are forced to adapt to a state of energy emergency: they switch from aerobic to anaerobic respiration.
Instead of water and carbon dioxide, hydrogen peroxide and carbon monoxide are produced.”
It has long been pointed out in the literature that any reversal of healthy cell processes may occur because of a number of reasons, and our cells then revert from a “robust oxidation” to an unhealthy “fermentation”. (Source)
The same violent friction and athermic deformations that can occur in our bodies when we are subjected to radar or microwaves, happens to the molecules in the food cooked in a microwave oven.
The higher power of microwaves, leads to the destruction and deformation of the molecules in food, and then new compounds are being formed.
The thing is that these new compounds are not known in nature and our body doesn’t recognize them as food either.
Here you can read about a research, based on feeding people with dairy products, which were prepared in a microwave oven, and then some blood samples were taken. Then, once again on an empty stomach, the same group of people were fed the same foods, but heated in a different way. Blood samples were taken once again.
Based on this, scientists made a comparison between the blood samples. The difference was dramatic and the changes point out that a stress occurs in our bodies, when we eat food preheated in a microwave.
Here are some of their findings on microwaving food:
1.Microwaved foods lose 60 – 90% of the vital-energy field and microwaving accelerates the structural disintegration of foods.
2. Microwaving creates cancer-causing agents within milk and cereals.
3. Microwaving alters elemental food-substances, causing digestive disorders.
4. Microwaving alters food chemistry which can lead to malfunctions in the lymphatic system and degeneration of the body’s ability to protect itself against cancerous growths.
5. Microwaved foods lead to a higher percentage of cancerous cells in the bloodstream.
6. Microwaving altered the breakdown of elemental substances when raw, cooked, or frozen vegetables were exposed for even a very short time and free radicals were formed.
7. Microwaved foods caused stomach and intestinal cancerous growths, a general degeneration of peripheral cellular tissues, and a gradual breakdown of the digestive and excretive systems in a statistically high percentage of people.
8. Microwaved foods lowered the body’s ability to utilize B-complex vitamins, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, essential minerals and lipotropics.
9. The microwave field next to a microwave oven caused a slew of health problems as well. (Source)
You don’t like Science? Don’t worry! Keep on reading!
If you are the kind of person, who is not keen on scientific researches, that’s fine! Make your own experiment.
Scramble some eggs and cheese and cook them in the microwave oven. When you take them out, they look like a sticky ball and have a foamy kind of texture. And last but not least, their taste is a lot different, than if you prepare the eggs in the oven.
There is a dramatic difference, even when you heat water for your coffee in the microwave and when you heat it on the stove.
The problem is that, if we use microwaves to heat our food, we are killing every nutrient, that our body needs.
Thus, we are not only starving our bodies, we are giving them more trouble, by serving them another portion of unknown particles. In turn, our immune system has a reaction and it is constantly fighting intruders.
This way, we are robbing our immune system, out of the opportunity to do its job, when we really need it.
Besides that, many of you will say: “It is quicker with a microwave.”
It sounds ridiculous! Just think about it! What would be your first reaction, if your child comes and says: “I found a really quick way to write my homework!”, or if a friend says: “I found a really quick and easy way to earn money!”
Probably your instinct will cue you, that there is something wrong with this approach and that the end result won’t lead to good consequences.
Then why do we always choose the “easier and quicker”, when it comes to our own health? Why do we expose at a big risk, our most valuable thing- our health?
I do not have a microwave oven or a TV. I don’t feel deprived; my daily life is just normal and the lack of all kinds of contemporary technologies does not limit my personal development, neither interferes with my social life
Just give it a thought! Which are the contemporary inventions and technologies, that bring more value to your life and which are just another spoil, which costs you your health!

Dear Ines,
Your post is filled with facts and science… and a practical “home” test.
I can only confirm that the taste of microwave heated food is different (in a bad way).
I own 2 TV sets (LED & Plasma) and i do not think they have an effect on my health… rather than making me be a passive person while watching them 😛
PS. You re amazingly fit and joyful (in your pics). You are definitely doing something right in the gym ;).
Thank you very much, Ryan 🙂 Thank you for following my blog. 🙂 Stay fit 😉
