In my last post, I explained you what is the reason for the accelerated aging process. I explained you the reasons for diseases, which just a few decades ago were considered diseases of aging, but unfortunately, nowadays are the common illnesses among young people.

I introduced you to the so called AGEs- the advanced glycation end products or in other words the end result of the modification of molecules by gucose.

I explained you how AGEs are being formed in the body and how they are a consequence of eating too many carbs, and the peak of your blood sugar levels, that accompany such carb loads. I hinted that there is another source of AGEs- an exogenous source.

Now I will surprise you, by saying that the exogenous source of AGEs is food and to be more precise, animal products. Before you think that I’ve totally lost it and that I am insane, read the whole post. (more…)

I think that if people had the opportunity to choose one “super power”, they could possess, it would be to be healthy and stop aging. They would choose to be 20-30 years old forever and take advantage of  the physical abilities, that a young, strong body provides.

Probably our bodies are genetically programmed ( like a machine), to have particular physical abilities, in a given period of their life cycle. As time goes by, some body functions decrease their work capacity, and some are lost completely.

This is the unpleasant, but the inevitable side of aging. What happens if our biological age, does not correspond our chronological age?

In other words, what might be the reason women and men who are just 25 years old, to have the biological age of 40-50 year old person?

What is it that accelerates the aging process and turns extremely young men, to become victims of the health problems more inherent for elder people?

It is the season of flu and some of you are sending me messages, asking: “How could I strengthen my immune system?”. That’s why I decided to share with you some thoughts and passions, as well as the methods, that I personally use, when I feel that the flu is trying to intrude in my otherwise healthy and strong body.

First of all, I’d like to note that the immune system I s a complicated system of organs, tissues, cells and cell products, which neutralize potential pathogens. Or in other words, without playing it the cool geek- this is “the defensive system” of our body, which keeps us safe from foreign intruders, which seem suspicious for our health and the proper functioning of our bodies.

The immune system could be divided into three types:

1.The anatomic barrier– this is the skin and the mucous.

2.The innate- non specific immune system– this is the common response of our body to bacteria, which made it through the anatomic barrier. This system is not specific, in terms that it treats all intruders the same way.

3.Adaptive immune system- the specific immune system- this is the most supreme type, because it has a memory. This means that your body memorized different kind of bacteria and flues, that it has encountered before.

I guess that this is the immune system, that contemporary medicine and its “babies”- anti flu inoculations are targeting- they inject you a small “dose” of the flu, so your body could find the mechanisms, to cope with it, i.e. to adapt to it.

Then, later on, when the flu is trying to attack you, your body will have the mechanism to knock it down, because you already have a pre-build barrier to this kind of intruders.

If I have to be honest, the best way to strengthen your immune system is by giving up the desperate try to avoid nature and everything that has to do with it! What do I mean?

The contemporary life, is something like a desperate try to avoid nature and its cyclical pattern.

If we start from all kind of commodities- cars, air conditioning, indoor places for socializing, recreation and feeding; go through all kind of contemporary medicines and our fragile bodies, that we tamed to break down, even during the slightest cold.

Then add the desperate try to get back on our feet, by taking a handful of pills, even for the slightest pain, has transformed our bodies, from extremely capable and resistant “machine”, to a fragile, unstable “machine”.

Personally, I think that when it is an emergency, we should take advantage of the progress in contemporary medicine. But when the situation is far from emergency, we should restrain from taking pills. As it is said “with or without antibiotics, you always get better in 7 days.”

In nature, there are a lot of cures, that we could use as a preventive measure or as a way to give a solid shoulder to our immune system. And here are my top 5: (more…)

Ines, for the past month I’ve been really good with my eating and training, but the results aren’t as good as I expect them to be. How can I lose weight faster? The truth is that there isn’t a substitute for hard work (HERE) and consistency. Just as unwanted fat, took time to pack on your body, getting rid of will also require some time. Everything comes up to finding the proper method, but still if you do not make efforts to apply it in your own life, success will be forever a mirage.

Ines, I admire your will. How do you manage to keep your motivation, even when you are faced with failure? It is really simple. Everything you are supposed to do, in order to change your life is to change your point of view.  When you see failure as an opportunity- the opportunity to find your weaknesses; what works and what doesn’t work, then you will probably get to find what you need in order to fix the weakness.

Failure is something like an identification- identification of what we need to work on, in order to progress. Just think about it… if you just did what you are good at, then you would really lack motivation. You would do something, you already know you are good at and it wouldn’t bring the emotions, that hoping, expecting and striving bring in your life.

Today I will tell you something really honest! There isn’t such a thing, as “I eat really good and I work out properly, but I do not achieve any results.” If I collected 1$ for every time when somebody tells me this, I would be among the top ten millionaires in Forbes magazine. Sometimes, people’s incline to fool themselves is astonishing.

We set a particular goal and we think we’ve found the proper method to achieve it. Initially we might be really consecutive and really follow the right steps towards success, but there comes a moment, when slowly but surely, the old, bad habits start creeping back- stepping silently on their toes and becoming the center of our daily life. And we are so obsessed with the fake notion, that we’ve changed our lifestyle and that we are on the right track, so the lack of results is torturing our mind.

Why do people quit on a healthier lifestyle?

Often times people quit on the healthy lifestyle, on the desire to feel better and become fitter, because they claim they’ve tried everything, but it never seems to work. They consider they have bad genes.

Well, truth is that for a person who is denying the reality, there is always enough meaningful excuses, which will explain the lack of results.

I can’t even explain you how many times, I get to ask people who I coach, about their nutrition. And if you listen to them, they are all so strict, that every now and then, they manage to perplex me. If they are eating so good, why there is no obvious results? Sure, this is not true for everybody. I am surrounded by wonderful, hardworking, dedicated people, but there is always somebody, who wastes his hard work in the gym, by cheating himself in the kitchen.
