With the risk of becoming lame, I will once again talk about women and weightlifting, and especially about weight training about your legs!
A couple days ago, a beautiful girl, with whom I train, came to me and said that she was worried, because her legs were getting too muscular. She said that they were already too strong from the dancing classes she was attending!
Completely shocked! First of all, I want to say that if you see her you will NEVER think anything bad about her legs! Besides that the heaviest weight that she has lifted so far is a 12kg kettlebell! Let me think that over… 12kg…too muscular! That’s an absurd statement!
I used this example, because I am aware that there are plenty of women, who are afraid of getting bulky or too muscular, without a real reason!
I’ve noticed that when it comes to women, their notion of their own appearance, is not based on the real reflection in the mirror, but more it is based on the illusion of how they probably look, which is fed by the mass media myths about women and weights!
What happens? All the popular media prints, state that women who lift weights, become too muscular… thus a woman, who has just started lifting weights, one day looks herself in the mirror… she completely neglects the real reflection and starts thinking “Oh, my God! I am lifting weights! I think my legs are getting too muscular!”
Truth is that they can not become too muscular! Truth is that your legs are not too strong! Exactly the opposite! They are not strong enough and you lack some necessary curves on them!
Most women have extremely undeveloped legs and tell you the truth some weight lifting wouldn’t be unduly!
Besides that I often hear how aerobics and dancing, has made your legs too strong!
How could you understand if your legs are getting stronger?
If you squat with a weight, which is equal to your bodyweight, then you are strong!
If you deadlift 1,5 times your bodyweight, then you are strong!
If you can do at least 1-2 pistols, then you are strong!
Strong! Not too strong, just strong!
Let me ask you, when was the last time that you squatted a weight that was half your bodyweight?
Never, right? Then you have absolutely nothing to fear about! Keep on lifting weights!
