I am a member of the facebook group “Eat Clean (no crap!). Train Smart. Stay Awesome. Forever.” , created by Eileen Schreiber. A couple days ago somebody posted something about a challenge called “I’m too awesome to weigh myself this month”. That made me think about myself and the scale. I haven’t stepped on a scale in almost two years. And that is a big thing, keeping in mind that I was addicted to it. Yes, you guessed it! I used to be just like every other woman- I measured myself and my attractiveness by the number on the scale. Then I found crossfit and my life will never be the same. I made a commitment to throw the scale away and stop living for the number it shows.
I find the challenge mentioned above to be really cool and helpful. That made me think about why I don’t care about the scale anymore.
Truth is that the scale doesn’t show who I truly am.
The number on the scale can’t be a measure of my success!
The scale doesn’t show how far I went– from not being able to complete a pull up even if my life depended on it, to actually doing them now!
The number on the scale doesn’t show how strong I am and how much I can squat, deadlift or push!
The number on the scale can’t measure the inner transformation– the confidence, the peace and satisfaction I feel.
The number on the scale can’t reflect my personality, my will and dedication.
The number on the scale can’t show how energized and happy I feel.
The number on the scale doesn’t show me how good my cloths fit me.
The number on the scale doesn’t show what I am capable of.
The number on the scale is just a number. And I am more than a number!
I’ve been there and I know how you feel. I know what it’s like to wake up every morning, having your own ritual before you step on the scale and weigh yourself. I know how it feels to let a stupid number rule your day and your life. I know how it feels to let a number mess up your thoughts, your mood and your beliefs!
So I dare you to stop it! Throw the scale! Measure your progress with something else, something that is worth it and something that shows how capable and beautiful you are!
So who are you? Just a number or something more?
