Some time ago I was chatting with a friend about the new trend among women- really low body fat, popping veins and of course some silicone! I wanted to write a post about it, but for a long time I thought it wasn’t the right time to do it, till today when I got inspiration to write. Accidently I stumbled upon this post” Lean, Fit, Beautiful and Unhealthy” and I suddenly felt the urge to write something.

Let me first start by reminding you why the whole movement about healthy eating and working out began… well in order for us to get inspired and motivated to take our life in control and be exactly this- healthy. But as it usually happens in life, we are swinging from one extreme to another.

As I love saying extremes are like the two ends of a fan… when you spread it, both ends touch each other… meaning that if you have a really high body fat percentage or a really low body fat percentage is pretty much the same! In both cases you will have a lot of health problems, psychological break down and depression!

Lately there are a lot of fitness models, who undoubtedly look stunning, but that’s just it- they look that way. The thing is that life is not just about smiles and poses in front of the camera. With some exceptions if you pick some of these girls, and search for their nutrition and workouts you will be shocked. Their diets are pretty much proteins and a handful of pills… they have body fat percentage between 8-10%… and of course silicone boobs.

If you go through their facebook pages, you will read how happy they are, how they’ve never felt better and other similar stuff, till the moment, when things really go wrong and they are forced to tell you things as they are in reality.

Here is the story of Jenny Groth , who I really, really like, but she still felt the consequences of strict diets and really low body fat percentage. I am glad that she is a really inspiring and smart person, and that she learned from this and now she has a more balanced approach. Hope she gets better soon!

I once read the  blog of one of the icons in the fitness industry( I will keep her name a secret). She has a really low body fat percentage all year round and she even wrote in one of her posts, how she doesn’t have her period, but she doesn’t care because she does not intend on having kids.

What bothers me is not what these women do with their bodies, but how women who admire them, take that path, willing to be healthier and fitter and after that ending up really lean and unhealthy.

Thousands  of women fool themselves that diets and workouts of fitness models are healthy and the path to a better life. And truth is that this way they are just doomed to more health problems, bad relationship with food and a lot of mind struggles, due to restrictions.

I just remembered about a friend of mine who is a fitness competitor. The other day she was explaining how she felt really weak, she was even about to pass out during a workout, but it didn’t matter because “ she is strong and looks stunning and it was totally worth it”. Seriously???

Let me ask you, is it worth  feeling weak, hungry, deprived and tortured, just because you want to have 8-10% body fat? Here everything come ups to appearance.

So from one evil- anorexia and bulimia, we go to another evil that is once again revolving not around of the health and function of your body, but around of appearance!

I will tell you that this isn’t healthy, no matter what you think. Does that mean that women can’t have abs? Absolutely not! A woman with 13-15% body fat,could look stunning, be lean and have the dreamed abs and the most important thing is that she will be healthy; her hormones will be balanced; she will feel healthy and strong to work out, to set PRs and to be proud of the way she looks and the way her body functions.

You could look great, without ruining your health!

Stop building new stereotypes, and turning into slaves of measures, sizes and a strive for a look from a magazine cover- no matter if it’d be Cosmopolitan or Muscle&Fitness.

Do you really think that 3-4% lower body fat is worth your health, your happiness and the balance in your life?

I don’t think so!

So, are low body fat and silicone the new skinny?

Training is rehearsal for the life itself; this is the place, where on a few square meters in the IFS you can experience each of the possible sensations- triumph, fall, disappointment, hope, will, weakness, and most of all power. The place, where in “monitoring conditions”” you can remind your body how to move correctly, how to work in your interest. Everything I have tried to achieve through IFS and the trainings is to help people bring back their consciousness, health and freedom to be who they are-without doubting. I have given myself time to re-build and to re-invent myself! Give yourself time as well. Come and train with us in IFS!
