You know how they say that the more you read the more you realize you know nothing! I bet that those of you who are keen on reading understand what I am talking about. I spend a huge amount of time reading and educating myself about nutrition, workouts, human body and etc. The amount of information is really vast, and at times it could be hard to gather the truth and not pay attention to the useless tips. There are so many programs out there, so many gurus, so many theories that at times I wish I have never started reading!
Through a lot of mistakes, experiments and observations I’ve come to the conclusion that nothing beats experience! I do not care who is the new guru, proclaiming that he found the hot water. I do not care how many people follow him on twitter or how many people like him on facebook! Truth is that there isn’t anything to be discovered, there isn’t a secret to be found. Things are really simple, but harder to take!
Recently I read an article on the Crossfit Journal, called “In Search of a Programming God”. The article was about some of the finalists from last year’s Crossfit Games. There, they shared what does their training programs and their diets look like. Some of them had a really strict diet and really strict training regimen. Others workout only three times a week, and took a whole week for rest every fourth week. Some indulged in Mc Donald’s and other junk food. Some did long metcons, and some emphasized on the Olympic weightlifting. They all had a different approach and only one thing in common- all of them got to go to the finals at The Crossfit Games.
Why am I rambling about this…well, because there isn’t a standard recipe for success! We are all different. Everybody has different strengths and different weaknesses! You shouldn’t rely so much on the newest diet, the newest program and etc. Truth is that nothing beats experience! You couldn’t know what is best for you, if you don’t try! If you listen to just one person, you limit your possibilities and you miss the whole picture. You could learn a lot from everybody. You just need to listen more! I encourage you to stop slaving some gurus and start using your head!
As I said everybody has a different approach and obviously everybody is getting some results! Do you know what is the common between everybody who is showing off he’s found the hot water? That every single long term successful diet, is based on the simple things! The real food! Every single long term successful program is based on the simple movements!
What I want from you is to learn the basics! The basics about nutrition and the basics about training! From there on, everything is an endless process. Is about building on the foundations, experimenting and learning!
