You work out, you eat clean, and it seems like you are doing everything perfectly, but you are still not feeling satisfied! What is the reason?
I am sure that those of you who are more upright, have fallen into this trap! Everybody is telling you that you have an amazing progress, but you still don’t notice your body’s transformation. You step on the scale and it shows the same number, and you wonder how that is possible!
I’ve told you a billion times how muscles weigh more than fat and it is absolutely possible to look better, but still weigh more!
As you already know, the scale isn’t your best adviser and you do not need to get depressed because of the number it shows! ( read here, here and here )
In moments like this, when you think that you are not having any progress, you start losing motivation. What could you do to get it back?
There is one sure way to do it, and it is called track your progress! And I do not mean that you should weigh yourself every morning, before you eat, without getting dressed and before you comb your hair. In order to track your progress you should use the appropriate method. And what could be better than taking pictures?
Every time when a new client starts working out with me, I advice him to take pictures of himself, right after the first workout, and then take another after a couple weeks. Thus you could compare pictures and you will have a visual proof of your transformation!
I’ve fallen into this trap, when I think that I am working really hard, but I am not achieving anything and when I take a picture, and compare it to the one before, I notice that in reality I am having a progress!
There are a lot of ways to track your progress- body fat percentage, taking measures and so on. But personally, I never insist on my clients to do it, because I’ve been there and I’ve been crazy on numbers. I know what a burden it is and how you could slip on the wrong path and go to extremes with an eating disorder!
But pictures are a great measure for where you are now and where you are headed. It is really motivating, to observe how your body transforms in a positive way. And even if you are having a plateau, it could be still motivating, because you will have the visual idea of where you are now, and knowing where you want to be, will make you want to do better!
And the progress measured in numbers doesn’t have the same effect, because of the fact that numbers are just plain facts. And people’s mind perceives images better! That is why all the pictures circulating in the web are so inspiring. Think about it! What motivates you more? The text, with an explanation how a women has 15% body fat, or the picture with a fit, beautiful woman, that doesn’t have the data for her body measurements? It is the same with pictures of men!
It is a fact, that nobody evaluates your appearance according to your body measurements. The appearance is a complex concept and it does not refer to just plain physical characteristics. That is why if you want to perceive yourself better, track your progress by taking pictures, not counting numbers! You will see how motivating it can be! And after all you will be able to share your transformation with me! And pictures like that have the power to motivate thousands of people!
How do you track your progress?
