It’s already Saturday! 🙂 Here in Bulgaria the weather is still sunny, so I am heading for a walk in the park and I intend on reading A LOT! This week I am feeling really strong. My deadlifts have improved dramatically and I am loving it! How was your week? Hope you are still going strong, kicking ass in the gym and being good in the kitchen! 😉 Have a great, FIT and healthy weekend! Meanwhile read my favorite reads this week!
„Try just a bite!”
“ Try it, I made it just for you!”
“ If you do not wanna have cake, I won’t either, and I’ve been craving it all day long!”
“ Get some pumpkin pie, it is a family tradition. Do you really want to be the first one that will stop it?”
If you are on the road of eating healthy, probably you often hear words like the one posted above! Sometimes the feeling is terrible, when other people try to make you feel guilt, just because you are trying to take care of your health but in their eyes you just belittle their hard work, by refusing to try the meals they cooked!
People are born with an instinct, to know when we are hungry and when we are full! Unfortunately somewhere early in our childhood, we lose that instinct. Part of it is due to the people, who are part of our lives and the meaning they give to food! I guess that all of you know how food is associated with something more than “just satisfying your physical needs of energy”. Food has become a way to express your love, a premise to get closer to others, a way to honor traditions, to show your respect and appreciation for others!
I remember the terrifying feeling I used to experience when (more…)
If you are interested in healthy eating, probably you know one thing for sure- that you should eat breakfast! Or at least that’s what you thought! Lately you could see a lot of people, that are really fit, lean and strong. People who dare to eat in a way that contradicts the common knowledge about healthy eating! They not only dare to skip breakfast, they actually don’t eat for an extended period of time! Now you are thinking that the risk for your health, is not worth these experiments! But the more interesting in this case is that besides the positive results with the body composition, these people state a remarkable improvement in their health!
What is Intermittent Fasting?
There are different ways to do it. (more…)
Last week I met a woman, who is a follower of my website. She wanted to talk a little more about her nutrition! I am always interested in the way people eat at that particular moment and mainly why they eat the way they do! As I’ve mentioned before, most difficulties people have when it comes to healthy eating, come from the connection between food and emotions ( that is especially true for women)!
And after all, a big part of our conversation, was granted for cheat days or in other words the days, when you are ALLOWED to eat whatever you want and give your taste buds and your mind some pleasure. Or at least that is the way people understand it!
As always I have a different point of view, so I decided to suggest it to you!
When I started eating (more…)
I love reading T-nation. This website is something like the “Holy Bible” to me, in terms of workouts and nutrition! Yesterday, while I was going through Ben Bruno’s Good Reads , I stumbled over this article “5 Mistakes That Killed My Progress”. This made me think about the mistakes that I’ve made in my past- the once that killed my progress!
1. Not following a structured workout program and just doing the exercises I like
This is one of the biggest mistakes I’ve made! When I started lifting weights, at the beginning I had progress, probably because until then I have never touched a weight in my entire life!
And after all , it is normal to have quick progress, when you are new at something. But not long after that, there came a moment, when I was just treading on one place. And not because I wasn’t making enough effort or because I was cheating. Actually, I always give my best, at times it even looks like pure masochism. Te problem was that back then, I still didn’t have the knowledge to structure my own training program. Every morning I woke up with a big desire to work out, but just for the sake of working out!
I had big dreams of being able to do pull ups, push- ups, walk on hands, squat with heavy weights… but a dream is just a dream, until you take the particular actions, that will turn your dream into a goal!
Working out without a clearly, defined program, I just went to practice and I did the exercises I liked… push-ups? Absurd! Back then I told myself “I can’t do push-ups and today I am not feeling good, so I better do something I am good at!”
Handstands? Have you lost your mind? You have shoulder injuries and you could fall and injure yourself!
Bulgarian squats? No way! I’d rather flip some tires!
And thus the time went by… I was wasting my efforts and I never seemed to progress! Until the day, I (more…)
You just woke up. It’s a new day and just the thought of getting out of bed and facing the new day is scaring you to death! You feel lonely, robbed… empty. The emotions are raving inside your fragile body and you are feeling so steeped in pain… just one more hit from life and you are hardly ever gonna find the strength to get back up!
Memories from the past are running through your mind… moments of happiness, pride, satisfaction… as if they are reinforcing your desperation and dead-lock… the desperation that your future will never get close to the beauty of your past days!
That’s how my day looked, exactly 5 years ago. On that day, my dreams shattered into pieces. Everything (more…)
Hey everybody! How was your week! Hope it was productive and that you are full of enthusiasm, passionately moving forward into the direction of your dreams! Hope that healthy eating is getting easier for you and it is already a lifestyle, not a diet! Hope that you’ve been working out and setting new PRs in the gym! Today it is time for my favorite reads of the week. There are some awesome reads as always, so make sure to take your time and read the list below!
You woke up this morning with a big enthusiasm to work out, didn’t you? But soon after that you looked through the window and you saw it’s raining ( or at least that was the forecast for today (here in Bulgaria))! Oh, how sad! Your plans are ruined! It is getting cold outside, it’s raining and it’s over with your life! Come on! That is nonsense!
It always looks strange to me, how people justify their laziness with the bad weather, and use it as an excuse to stay at home! It reminds me how most people hardly, dread through the work week, eagerly anticipating the weekend, so they can live again! You are doing exactly the same thing! The whole autumn and winter, you are barely existing, feeling sad and unsatisfied and you are eagerly anticipating for the summer, so you could once again take care of yourself!
Personally I LOVE working out in the rain! I love hill sprints in the rain, I love flipping tires in the mud and swinging kettlebells under the raindrops! After all, what is the problem? I will get dirty and I will just change my clothes after that!
Even when it comes to working out when it is colder, we are following the common sense- when it is cold, we should stay at home! Come on! Don’t you remember how when you were kids you could hardly wait to go outside and jump in the puddles? Well, today you have this chance and you are finding lame excuses, to never fulfill your childhood dream!
This spring, I had a workout with some of my clients, when it started pouring outside. Everybody that was there, and (more…)
Did you really think I am starving? No way! 😉
Starving… probably this theme is already lame, but I still see a lot of people, starving themselves, when they are trying to lose weight.
When I say starving yourself, I am not talking about the so popular intermittent fasting. The difference between starving yourself and being an intermittent faster, where you alternate periods of not eating, with periods of eating, is huge! Intermittent fasting could help you reach your goals, it could become a lifestyle and it could make you feel better, and even though I don’t like it, I do not deny it!
What happens when somebody goes on a diet in order to lose weight: (more…)
More often than not, people go to the gym and work out, doing a variety of exercises, without actually being aware why they are doing them. They rarely give it a thought, how the exercises they are doing, could improve their posture, reduce the muscle imbalances or just help them improve their athletic level.
What usually happens is that a person decides he is going to work out. He opens a fitness magazine or a fitness website. He copies a training program that somebody else is doing and then works out in exactly the same manner!
This is a sure way to never achieve your goal and even a more sure way to waste your time!
Today I will emphasize on why it is important to perform exercises, which will strengthen your core, what are the benefits from these exercises and I will suggest you some variety!
A strong core, decreases (more…)
