I hear it all the time- people that never dare to try eating better and healthier, just because they are scared of it! They listen to all these myths spread in the media, about diets, restrictions, hunger, complicated calculations and so on.
People mistakenly think that if they do not follow “the rules” they won’t make it far. And due to their unwillingness to sacrifice their comfort, they never dare to change their eating habits!
But truth is I wanna encourage you to give it a try, and that is why I will show you it isn’t as scary as you initially thought!
When you know the truth and leave the myths behind, everything can be so much simple and even bring you pleasure! So here are five things you got wrong about healthy eating!
1. Healthy eating doesn’t mean being deprived!
If you are constantly thinking about food, if you can hardly wait for your next meal- then you are simply not eating enough!
And guess what you are not eating healthy!
Eating healthy means eating real food in enough quantity to support your daily activity and body function!
Healthy eating has nothing to do with deprivation and everything to do with smart choices!
2.Healthy eating doesn’t mean being a mathematician!
It doesn’t mean spending all day calculating your food, your calories, your protein:fat:carb ratio!
What you are thinking is that if you calculate your daily calorie intake, and the calories you spent doing physical activity, then subtract one from the other, you’ve found the formula to being fit and awesome! Wrong!
From my experience the people that count calories the most, in the long term turn out to develop bad relationship with food and never end up with the body they dream about!
But what are you gonna do if you stop with the math?
How will you know if you are doing the right things, eating the right proportions and so on? The answer is really simple-listen to your body!
Your body knows better how you feel and what you need! Probably today your body needs more than the 30% protein you were supposed to give it. Tomorrow it might need 300 calories more than you want to give it!
Healthy eating isn’t about complicated equations ,it’s about trusting your body signals- giving it food when you feel hunger, stop feeding when you feel full!
3.Healthy eating doesn’t mean eating tasteless, disgusting food!
Healthy eating means eating real food! The taste of your food is up to you and your abilities in the kitchen! If you can’t fry an egg, it is you that is the problem, not the egg! Learn to cook and you will find out that healthy eating can be a lot of fun and tastes a lot better than the food you are eating now!
4. Healthy eating isn’t about being a perfectionist!
I know you want to have everything straight! I understand you want to control everything, know your meals ahead for days, but calm down!
It isn’t the end of the world if somebody ate the spinach before you did! Grab another vegetable, it won’t ruin your diet!
If your family is having a special occasion, just go and eat the real food that is available on the table. Doesn’t matter if you usually eat eggs for dinner, grab the stake and eat it! It’s not about perfection, it is about choosing the best option available!
5. Healthy eating is not about losing yourself!
…but rather about helping yourself be the best version of you!
Many people think that if they eat healthy, they have to give up all the fun with their friends- no parties, no restaurants, no family gatherings, nothing!
Just you and your boxes packed with healthy food! Are you kidding? Go out with whoever you feel like- they will have the fries and the hamburger on the menu, and you will have the steak and the salad!
Healthy eating isn’t about losing your identity! It can’t change the person you are!
